Best Candidates

Veneers can be used to quickly mask chips and stains on a tooth’s enamel, improve misaligned or worn-down teeth, and fix teeth that are poorly shaped or spaced. At Smiles! Dentistry by Dr. Joseph Heher, veneers will be custom made to fit comfortably over your teeth for an attractive and natural look. At your consultation, Dr. Heher will listen to your goals and expectations so he can customize your treatment. Dr. Heher will also find out if you are a good candidate for veneers by checking your overall oral health. You should not have symptoms of periodontal disease, or habitually clench your jaw and grind your teeth (called bruxism).

What To Expect

As soon as you have developed your unique treatment plan with Dr. Heher, he will be able to complete your veneer procedure in one or two dental appointments. Dr. Heher uses composite resin for veneers for more affordable treatment with natural results. Composite veneers often do not require as much tooth removal as other popular types of veneers. Dr. Heher will artfully sculpt the composite resin material to your teeth before polishing the teeth for a natural and restored appearance. Once your veneers are bonded, Dr. Heher can make minor adjustments so your veneers are comfortable.

Porcelain veneers are laboratory fabricated by skilled artisans and will require at least two visits, with several days in between appointments.  While more expensive than composite veneers, they tend to last longer and have less tendency to stain. Dr. Heher and his team also utilize VITA computerized shade technology to better match porcelain crowns and veneer shades for a natural, restored appearance.

You may experience some sensitivity to hot and cold food for a few days, but this should subside naturally. Your veneers should be cleaned like your natural teeth with regular brushing and flossing. While veneers are more resistant to stains compared to your natural enamel, you should still avoid staining foods and drinks to keep your smile bright. To avoid harming your veneers, you should not chew on hard objects such as ice or candy. A nightguard is strongly recommended after placing veneers, for nighttime grinding can chip them; a nightguard reduces the chance of this happening. Continue to schedule dental exams and cleanings at Smiles! Dentistry by Dr. Joseph Heher so we can monitor the condition of your veneers, teeth, gums, and overall oral health. Dr. Heher will let you know if your cosmetic veneers need to be repaired or replaced.

Insurance Coverage

Veneers are a cosmetic procedure so they are usually not covered by dental insurance plans. Smiles! Dentistry by Dr. Joseph Heher does accept many payment methods, including medical financing, to make your treatment easier to afford. During your consultation, Dr. Heher will customize your treatment to fit your goals and budget. He will provide an estimate for your treatment and explain payment options.
